Chriss R. is the founder and editor of The Productive Founder. He writes every guide on the site.
He trained as an industrial engineer, specializing in equipment and IT maintenance, and spent several years working as a trainer — teaching companies how to keep their hardware and systems running. Then the family business changed hands: his father, a construction contractor, retired, and Chriss stepped in to run it.
That turned out to be the real education behind this site. A construction business lives or dies by its estimates, its schedules, and whether the person running it actually knows where every job stands. With four sons at home, Chriss stopped chasing job sites in person and rebuilt the business around a desk instead: bids, quotes, and project follow-up, all run from a computer rather than a truck. The systems this site covers — time blocking, weekly reviews, project tracking, the software that either earns its keep or gets in the way — are the ones he actually uses to run a real company without being physically present on every job.
In 2020, when COVID-19 shut down in-person training and conferences, Chriss founded Net Studio LLC, a US company built to keep doing the work he had always done — technical training and consulting — remotely, over video call, plus new services built around AI. Running a construction company and a remote training company at the same time is exactly the kind of juggling this site is written for.
How the guides are made
Every article follows the same rules. Prices and plan limits are checked on official sources the day an article publishes, which is why the comparisons carry a “checked” date. Templates are built and tested before they ship: if you download a planner, checklist, or spreadsheet from this site, it was used before it was uploaded. Comparisons recalculate what vendors do not advertise — seat minimums, tier gates, the real cost at your team size. And claims about research link to the actual study, not to another blog’s summary of it.
What he writes about
Time management systems that fit a founder’s calendar: time blocking, weekly reviews, time audits, planning systems that connect the quarter to the day. Software decisions: business management platforms, project management tools, and what the free tiers really include — including the construction and field-service angle, since that is the business he actually runs day to day. Organization for small teams: meeting systems, hiring, and workflows that do not depend on one person’s memory.
Editorial standards
The site runs on a published editorial policy that covers how articles are researched, how conflicts of interest are handled, and how corrections work. If you spot an error — a price that changed, a step that no longer matches the product — the fastest fix is the contact form. Corrections are made in the open.
Contact
Questions, corrections, or a topic you would like covered: the contact page reaches him directly. He reads everything; replies can take a couple of business days when a guide is being tested.
